Woman Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Assault Dies
The female victim who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault near a bus shelter within Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.
Originally charged of attempted murder however after the woman's death the charge has been updated to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed the accused, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, trainers with a backpack.
Attack Site Details
The knife attack occurred near Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.
Eyewitness Reports
An area worker, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"Many co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.
"She doesn't drive and works at major concert locations... considering something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
